Jobs blow for Channel Island

The Isle of Man may be feeling the squeeze as the global economy slows down, but spare a thought for Sark.

At the end of last week the super-rich Barclay brothers pulled out of the Channel Island completely, saying they were unhappy about its first full democratic elections.

Some estimates say 40 people will be put out of work, while others say as many as 120 could lose their jobs.

Leader of Sark’s parliament Michael Beaumont says he’s confident the Channel Island’s economy can survive (play attached audio file):
