Dot defended over User Agreement

by isleofman.com 15th December 2008
Transport Minister David Anderson is defending his department as it faces a vote of no confidence in Tynwald this week.

Onchan MHK and Liberal Vannin leader Peter Karran has tabled a motion criticising the DoT's handling of the linkspan User Agreement with the Steam Packet Company.

He claims there has been no mechanism for overseeing the agreement and no accountability when things go wrong.

But Mr Anderson (pictured) says his department has been vindicated by a recent report by a Tynwald Select Committee.

He told Manx Radio:

"One thing that did come out of the Select Committee's report was that the user agreement was being lived up to by the Steam Packet, to the letter.

"In other words, the Department of Tranmsport, which is responsible for making sure it complies with every aspect of the agreemnent, was doing that.

"Whether you like the User Sgreement or not is another subject."
