Resurgent Old Boys showed their qualities yet again on Saturday.

A week after defeating reigning champions St George’s, Colin Purvis’ side held league leaders Peel to a 1-1 draw at Blackberry Lane.

Robbie Ward opened the scoring for the home side for the penalty spot in the first half before Johnny Myers levelled for the westerners after the break.

Callum Stewart came close to a last-minute winner for the home side with a shot which cannoned back off the post but the spoils were shared as Peel moved nine points clear of the Sure Mobile Premier League.

Union Mills gained the result of the day to damage Rushen’s title aspirations.

Goals from Richard Cannell and Michael Collister sealed a 2-1 victory with the in-form Josh Kelly on target again for Rushen.

Gymns’ bid to beat the drop received a massive boost with a 5-3 win at Ayre United, a result which leaves the home side in trouble.

A dominant first half from the Tromode side saw them 3-0 up at the interval.

Ciaran McNulty was the Gymns hero with a hat-trick with Mark Connor and Daniel Halligan netting the others.

Although Ayre were much improved in the second half – Martin Torr bagging a brace and Steven Parish scoring a free-kick (Torr also missed a penalty) – it wasn’t enough to prevent Gymns from claiming all three points.

Laxey ended a disappointing run with a convincing 4-0 win at Colby.

Two goals from Michael Fernandez and one from Craig Taylor sealed the match by half-time and Johnny Baker added the fourth for the Miners late on.
