Douglas and Ramsey show mettle

by isleofman.com 8th December 2008
Douglas and Ramsey won thrillers in the South Lancashire/Cheshire League on Saturday.

Douglas won 10-9 at Ashton on Mersey in Division Two.

They trailed 6-0 at one point but a Bryn Snellgrove penalty and a Ryan Maddox try, which the reliable Snellgrove converted, turned the match in their favour and they produced a disciplined display to hang on for the points to continue their encouraging start to life in the division.

Fintan Cummins was the star of the show at the Mooragh Pak as Ramsey edged out West Park Warriors 15-13 in the top of the table clash in Division Four.

Cummins kicked Ramsey to victory with a last-minute penalty – his fifth of the afternoon – to earn the home side the points after a ding-dong battle.

A try from skipper Mark Nolan, converted by Gerry Dowling who also notched a penalty, had left West Park 13-12 in front until the last-gasp intervention.

In South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One, Vagabonds ended the year on a disappointing note.

They went down to a late penalty at Dukinfield.

Early tries from Jay Kruger and Simon Heggs gave them a good start but Heggs was later sent-off to leave Vagas up against it.

Although a Rob Martin try looked to have earned them the points, Dukinfield’s late show secured a 16-15 home win.
