Assistance available for digital switchover

by isleofman.com 4th December 2008
Help is at hand for diabled and elderly people in the Isle of Man to make the switch to digital TV next year.

Representatives from the BBC's Digital Switchover Help Scheme have been on the Island, contacting organisations which deal with people who qualify for assistance.

Letters will be sent out in the New Year to those who could benefit, and on Manx Radio Sumera Bashir explained who will be receiving them.

She said:

"We can help you if you are aged 75 or over, have lived in a care home for six months or more, get or could get certain disability allowances and are registered or partially sighted.

"The help includes easy to use equipment that meets your needs, help with installing the equipment, fitting a new dish or aerial where we can - if that's what's needed to make the equipment work - and a demonstration and someone you can call for help while you are getting used to things."
