Chinese cultural representative for Island?

by isleofman.com 30th September 2008
There are plans to promote the Chinese language and culture in the Isle of Man.

It's hoped to base a teacher from the country at Ballakermeen High School in Douglas for a year, as part of a joint initiative between the Beijing Institute of International Studies and the University of Central Lancashire.

A delegation has been visiting the Island looking at how the centre could be set up at Ballakermeen.

Speaking through a translator, President of the Beijing Institite Zhou Lie told Manx Radio: "I've only been in the Island for a few hours, but have been very impressed by several things.

"First of all, the amount of support given by the Isle of Man government, secondly the school is very enthusiastic about the Chinese language and Chinese culture, and thirdly the pupils at this school are brilliant."
