DHSS system to be trialled

by isleofman.com 1st September 2008
A system which will aid people to live independently is to be trialled in Ramsey by the Department of Health.

Telecare Technology, in conjunction with Manx Carephone, is designed to monitor the movement, lifestyle and medication of clients.

It will provide an opportunity for individuals to remain in their own home in circumstances which could otherwise prove difficult.

Commissioner Mary Bruce (pictured) welcomed the news, saying Health Minister Eddie Teare had listened to concerns expressed by board members when they met to discuss the issue of care homes.

The installation cost of the system is to be met by the department, however commissioner Geoff Quayle said some elderly people could find it difficult to meet the telephone rental and monitoring costs.
