Cronkbourne are Twenty20 champions

by isleofman.com 17th July 2008
Cronkbourne won the Twenty20 Cup at Tromode on Saturday after a dramatic final against St John's.

Batting first the Douglas side appeared to have lost the game after making only 107.

Luke Lacey hit 29, with Nick Hawke and Arne van der Berg each taking three wickets.

But Max Stokoe then blasted Cronkbourne back into the match.

With his first ball he had Grant Atchison caught by Riaan Riekert and in the same over dismissed Nick Hawke.

The Saints struggled against hostile bowling until skipper Jon Norrington steadied their nerves.

In a difficult situation he made an impressive 35, but wickets were tumbling around him.

Jon was unable to halt a rampant Cronkbourne attack who ripped through the side.

St John's were bowled out for 74 with Max Stokoe taking 3-19 and Alex Stokoe returning 2-11.

In the semi-finals played earlier in the day St John's had beaten Castletown and Cronkbourne had a good win over Ramsey.
