Jailed for raiding bank accounts

by isleofman.com 9th July 2008
A 40-year old man who admitted eleven offences of stealing money from bank accounts has been jailed by the High Bailiff for a total of four months.

Simon Timothy Hay of Bromet Road, Castletown admitted the offences which were all committed between July 2007 and January of this year.

Police received complaints from a branch of Barclays Bank indicating that monies had been removed from clients funds.

Hay was arrested on April 5th. He made a full admission and said he had accumulated a drug debt and used the money to support his family. His advocate said there were gaps between the offences - which were not sophisticated - and there was no forgery involved.

The money went into his account and there was no third party involvement.

Hay had also made a full and frank admission to his employers and police. She urged for a suspended sentence to be imposed, but Mr Moyle said it was a serious matter and involved a position of trust.
