McAvennie allegedly charged

by isleofman.com 9th July 2008
It's been reported former Scottish international footballer Frank McAvennie missed the charity football match at the Bowl at the weekend after allegedly being involved in an incident at a bar.

The former St Mirren, Celtic and West Ham player was due to be a guest striker in the game but, according to the Glasgow Daily Record, withdrew after being arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning.

On its website, the paper quotes police as saying a 48 year-old man who lives in Newcastle has been charged with affray and disorderly conduct, and will appear in court in Douglas next month.

The Record goes on to say a 23 year-old local man, arrested in connection with the same incident, has been charged with affray.

Police haven't confirmed the identity of the man from Newcastle.
