'Oval-about' scheme goes on display

by isleofman.com 3rd July 2008
Members of the public have been examining the Department of Transport's plans for a major new traffic management system at Quarterbridge in Douglas.

They show a ?4 million project which, among other things, would involve the demolition of the QB public house, and the removal of nearly 50 trees.

The DoT says there are two main reasons why the changes are needed - increasing congestion at busy times of the day, and the number of road accidents which are caused by the sometimes 'confusing' double roundabout arrangement.

If the scheme went ahead the Island would have it's first 'Oval-about', as Director of Highways Bruce Hannay explained to Graham Bell (audio file attached):

The plans for the new Quarterbridge 'Oval-about' will be available for inspection just inside the main entrance to the Sea Terminal in Douglas until 7pm today, and from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday.

Anybody visiting the display will have the chance to ask DoT officials about the scheme, and will be invited to fill in a questionnaire.
