Green TT on the way

by isleofman.com 23rd June 2008
Plans have been unveiled to include a new Green Grand Prix at next year's TT festival.

It's being billed as the world's first Clean Emissions Grand Prix race and will be called the TTxGP.

Its backers say it will provide an opportunity for global innovators in zero emission technology to prove being green doesn't mean being slow.

It's an exciting concept, but very much in the early stages of development.

Founder, London-based Azhar Husain, says the TTxGP will run alongside the TT but will be a stand alone race.

It aims to showcase the next generation of fuel technologies at what's described as 'a tipping point' in the search for alternative energy resources.

Mr Husain expects to attract racing teams made up of innovative engineers and clean-tech specialists, backed by international corporations, universities and high tech institutions.

Cottage teams who want to experiment with alternative energy will be able to compete in an 'Open' class.

It remains to be seen whether the big manufacturers will be prepared to commit major resources to back a new era of environmentally friendly racing.
