Ernie's proudest moment

by isleofman.com 24th June 2008
'Double' parish walker Bethany Clague has been resting at her parents' house, after becoming the first person ever to complete two consecutive laps of the 86 mile course.

She was warmly applauded across the finish line on Douglas promenade at about 7.20am today, having been on her feet virtually continually since 8am on Saturday.

Her friend and helper Ernie Runciman (pictured) said there were times during the 172 miles that she was tested to the limit, particularly during the dreadful weather on Saturday.

But he never doubted for a moment that her courage and determination would secure her a place in the history books (audio file attached):

Bethany Clague is raising funds for the Island's Hyperbaric Chamber, and if you would like to contribute to you can ring Ernie Runciman on 412235.
