Free fire advice for rural areas

Landowners, rural residents and farmers are being offered what could be life-saving free advice from the Fire and Rescue Service.

They will visit remote locations to check on available water supplies and any other factors which could addect the way they would tackle a blaze.

For example, certain farm fertilisers can react badly with water to create an explosive chemical cocktail.

People who enjoy the countryside are being reminded to take care with cigarettes and barbecues in case they inadvertently start an outdoor fire.

Community Fire Safety Officer Carl Kinvig says a fire which has taken hold can put people in great danger whether it's in or out of doors:
