Money laundering seminar for retailers

by isleofman.com 23rd June 2008
Companies in the Island offered cash for high-value items are being warned - new laws to stop money-laundering now apply to them.

That means firms who take cash payment for goods over 15,000 Euros - or the sterling equivalent - could face questions.

The measures will extend to businesses like jewellers, auction houses and car dealerships - and failure to comply is a serious criminal offence.

A seminar this Thursday (26th) at the Manx Museum will spell out the Money Laundering Code.

So are local firms being forced to act as agents of government?

Head of Enforcement at the Financial Services Commission Paul Heckles:

The seminar is in the Manx Museum Lecture theatre at 6pm this Thursday.
