Re-cycling options need to be examined

The Isle of Man needs to consider all the options for re-cycling before commiting public money to a large-scale scheme.

That criticism has come from Onchan MHK David Quirk, after Tynwald voted to spend ?750,000 on collecting dry re-cyclables in Douglas, Onchan and Braddan.

During a lengthy debate yesterday Mr Quirk called on Environment Minister John Shimmin to delay the initative and complete an Island-wide waste management strategy.

But the move was defeated.

Mr Quirk says the waste industry has moved on in recent years and giving people boxes to fill may no longer be the best solution (audio file attached):
