Minister says Island must recycle more

by isleofman.com 18th June 2008
Environment Minister John Shimmin is delighted Tynwald has approved expenditure of ?750,000 on the IIsle of Man's first large-scale kerbside collection scheme.

Sixteen thousand homes around Douglas, Onchan and Braddan will be given two colour-coded plastic containers and will be asked to put newspapers and magazines into one and steel, aluminium, glass and plastics into the other.

Mr Shimmin says the scheme is a vital first step in re-cycling, but much more needs to be done so the energy from waste plant (pictured) doesn't reach capacity (audio file attached):

John Shimmin was talking to Stuart Peters live on Mandate.
