Ancient tradition alive at St John's

It's a day of national pride and celebration, and an extra holiday for most Island residents, but Tynwald Day is also a highly significant event at the heart of the Manx legislative process.

Preparations for the Island's national day of ceremony and celebration at St John's are at an advanced stage.

Ensuring the traditions of the oldest continuous parliamentary assembly in the world are upheld on the day, is a job for Clerk of Tynwald Malachy Cornwell-Kelly.

He says the ordinary citizen's right to air grievances at petitioner's gate is a unique and ancient tradition (audio file attached):
