Mersey rescuers praised

The captain of Steam Packet ship, the Viking, has praised the bravery and quick-thinking of two crew members who rescued a man from the River Mersey last week.

The men, who have not been named, recovered the casualty last Friday evening and transferred him to the landing stage where local emergency services were waiting.

At the time, the Viking had been loading at the Liverpool Landing Stage ahead of its evening sailing to the Island.
