Birth rate down

The Island's birth rate fell during the first quarter of 2008, compared with the same period last year.

There were 216 births by the end of March, 10.8 per thousand of the Island's population.

That compares with 256, or 13.4 per thousand in the first quarter of last year.

There were also fewer deaths in the first three months of this year, 212 per thousand compared with 220 in 2007.
