Diver inquest continues

by isleofman.com 6th March 2008
An inquest is continuing today to find out how an experienced diver died on a simple, shallow dive in almost perfect conditions.

Michael Bromsgrove, of Liverpool drowned after ten minutes in the water off Bradda Head.

Yesterday, Coroner of Inquests Michael Moyle was told the 41 year-old changed his mind and decided to join a dive which he had intially rejected as being too easy.

Dr Alexander Deas carried out a report into the tragedy and believed it could have been avoided with simple modifications to the diving equipment used.

He believed Mr Bromsgrove's oxygen supply closed down causing him to lose conciousness, and surmised it had been caused by the battery connection coming loose when he entered the water.

Dr Deas said even if an alarm had gone off, indicating there was a problem, it was such a quick sound Mr Bromsgrove would not necessarily have heard it.

He said he believed as Mr Bromsgrove attempted to return to the surface his oxygen would have reduced dramatically, and caused him to lose conciousness.
