A first for Douglas

by isleofman.com 6th March 2008
Douglas Council’s become the first local authority in the British Isles to have completed a Cleaner, Safer, Greener Charter.

Led by the council and produced in consultation with UK-based charity ENCAMS, it’s a partnership between stakeholders in the private and public sectors who have pledged to work together towards what's described as ‘creating quality spaces for a proud and positive Douglas’.

The charter was signed at Douglas town hall by representatives of the council, Douglas Development Partnership, the departments of Local Government, Transport, Tourism and Leisure, the Island’s fire and rescue service and the police.

Mayor Colin Cain said the charter was ‘a declaration of intent to work together for the benefit of all’.
