Minister hopes for transport solution

The Minister for the DHSS is confident the row over transport arrangements for people with learning disabilities will be sorted out by the extended deadline, at the end of April.

Eddie Teare says the much praised ProTours service was considered inappropriate when it was brought in, about eight years ago, and the fact it has proved so popular suggests it's not always a bad thing to look at a new approach.

He says there have been 'many contacts' with the families of service users, and alternative arrangements have been discussed:

Mr Teare says some of the families involved are happy with the proposed new arrangements, but talks with others are ongoing.
