Driving test pass rates revealed

by isleofman.com 27th February 2008
Only one in four people in the Isle of Man pass their practical driving test first time around, according to Department of Transport figures.

Rushen MHK Juan Watterson asked Transport Minister David Anderson about pass rates for the Island’s drivers in the House of Keys yesterday.

He wanted to know how many people made it through the theory and practical tests at their first and second attempts, both here and in the United Kingdom.

In a written reply, Mr Anderson said no data was available for the theory test as the DoT didn't keep records of how many attempts were made, but the overall pass rate for the theory exam over the last twelve months stood at 64 per cent.

When it came to taking to the road with an examiner, only 24 per cent passed at their first attempt, while 37 per cent did so second time around.

Mr Anderson said the Department of Transport would write to the UK’s Driving Standards Agency and he would pass any data received on to members when it arrived.
