Winter Hill 50th anniversary

Today is the 50th anniversary of the Island's worst air disaster.

Thirty-five men lost their lives when a plane they were travelling on from Ronaldsway to Manchester crashed in poor weather into Winter Hill on February the 27, 1958.

Port Erin man Bill Taylor (pictured) who worked nearby at the time, says it was a tragic day for the community (audio file attached):

A commomorative plaque will be unveiled at Cooil y Ree Park, St Johns, at midday today.
The ceremony will be followed by a church service in the Royal Chapel at 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
