Disaster to be commemorated tomorrow

by isleofman.com 26th February 2008
Tomorrow marks the 50th anniversary of the Winter Hill disaster.

The plane crash in Lancashire claimed the lives of 35 Manx residents and is the Isle of Man's worst accident involving an aircraft.

Tomorrow, commemorative events are taking place, organised by the Rotary Club of Douglas.

A church service at the Royal Chapel at St John's will be preceded by the unveiling of a memorial plaque and the planting of a tree by two of the survivors of the crash, Fred Kennish and Norman Ennett.

Chairman of the Winter Hill Committee, Douglas Rotarian Howard Callow, lost his father in the tragedy.

He says the research members have carried out has given a real insight (audio file attached):

Howard Callow was speaking to James Davis, on Mandate PM.
