Man ordered to take violence programme

by isleofman.com 26th February 2008
A Port Erin man who assaulted his wife has been given a four month prison sentence suspended for two years by the High Bailiff.

Carl Richard Philip Masson of Edremony admitted the offence of causing actual bodily harm.

His advocate said the defendant was involved in an argument with his wife, Ruth, and attacked her causing bruising.

The advocate said the defendant had little or no recollection of events, and said there was genuine remorse shown.

Michael Moyle said he noted the defendant's last conviction was 17 years ago for an assault on his wife.

He said wives were not there to be used as punch bags, and imposed a two year supervision order with a condition that Masson undergoes a domestic violence programme.
