Champions Bacchas A showed why they are exactly that in the match of the day on Saturday.

They defeated arch-rivals Valkyrs A 4-2 to maintain their 100 per cent record in men’s Division One and end their opponents’ own perfect record in the process.

Doubles from Glen Bloxham Mundy and Tom Wilson mean Bacchas A are level on points at the top with Valkyrs and also have a game in hand.

Russell Miller and Mark Moyer replied for Valkyrs.

Barry Mellor, Ben Curtis and Ian Wood were the marksmen as Ramsey A enjoyed a good 3-1 win over an under-strength Bacchas B, for whom Tony Bentley-Smith grabbed the goal, while Connor Byrne was the star of the show with a five goal haul as Vikings A hit Castletown for seven without reply.

Andrew Harding and Simon Foster joined him on the scoresheet.

In the remaining men’s Division One game, doubles from Dan Jacobs and Ken White fired Vikings B to a good 4-2 success over Saracens, for whom John Bolton also scored twice.

In women’s Division One, there was an incredible individual feat as Donna Harrison hit EIGHT as champions Bacchas A put 13 past Harlequins.

Sharon Pope and Emma Killip grabbed doubles and Helen Thomas the other with Alison Middleton scoring two consolations for Harlequins in the second half.

In the top women’s game of the day, leaders Vikings A bounced back from their first defeat of the campaign with a 2-1 win over Ramsey A.

Karen Faragher and Danielle Coombes were on target with Laura Bellwood the Ramsey scorer.

Tracy Lyness hit two with Charlotte Talavera and Jane Ryder netting one apiece as Phoenix won 4-2 against Valkyrs B, while Hannah Logan and Andrea Kneen were the respective scorers as Castletown A and Valkyrs A shared the spoils.
