Pulrose secure semi-final spot

by isleofman.com 23rd February 2008
Second Division Pulrose secured a memorable victory at promotion rivals Michael to reach the semi-finals of the Cu-Plas FA Cup.

Goals from Ben Cowin, Barry English and John Halsall sealed a fine 3-2 win and booked their place in the last four for the third successive season.

Michael Shimmin scored both for Michael, as they twice fought back, before Halsall was the match-winner.

They were joined by heavyweights St George’s, holders Peel and Laxey, although the Geordies were pushed all the way before seeing off Gymns in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

The sides were deadlocked at 1-1 after normal-time at Tromode with Peter Dunn scoring a brilliant goal from inside his own half to give Gymns a first half lead, before skipper Sean Quaye’s header levelled for the Geordies after the break.

And with no further goals in extra-time, it went to sudden death in the shoot-out with St George’s triumphing 5-4.

The tie of the round at Glen Road saw the hosts edge out St Mary’s 3-2.

A Justin Hawley penalty and goals from Sam Theobold and Lee Cowley fired Laxey to victory with Steven Priestnal netting both for the Saints, last year’s finalists.

Peel’s quality shone through against western rivals Marown.

The Division Two side battled well but went down 5-1 to the holders.

Kerron Christian, substitute Chris Cain, Marc Kelly, Juan Killip and Nigel Shimmin were the Peel marksmen with Ricky Lovett grabbing the Marown consolation.
