DHSS could balance its books

Health Minister Eddie Teare says an inflation-busting increase in his department’s budget means the DHSS could balance its books this year.

The Department of Health and Social Security will get 8.1 per cent more money this year, which comes to an extra ?17 million from the Treasury.

In recent years, the DHSS has had to ask for more money from Tynwald because of overspends.

But Mr Teare (pictured) says systems put in place by both he and his predecessors are starting to bear fruit in terms of savings (audio file attached):
