Local pig farmer fears for industry

A Manx pig farmer says the future of the Industry on the Isle of Man depends on local support.

Sean Dean says feed costs for the animals have doubled in recent times, but the price of meat has not gone up to compensate.

He says there are currently only around 500 sows on the Island, that's the size of an average herd in the United Kingdom.

Pork is not protected by the meat derogation, which means imports can be sold at cheaper prices.

Mr Dean says pig farming over here is entirely reliant on people 'buying Manx', and he believes they'll be rewarded with meat that is naturally superior:
