A 28-year old Polish man who headbutted a friend has been given a three month prison sentence by the High Bailiff, suspended for two years.

Stanislaw Zylka of Belmont Terrace, Douglas, appeared for sentence after admitting affray.

The incident occurred on December 27th at a bus stop on Peel road.

The defendant headbutted another Polish man, causing pain and swelling.

The defendant said he was angry because the aggrieved - who'd been a friend since the pair met six months ago - made a comment about his partner. The defendant's advocate said the incident was not pre-meditated, he simply lost his temper when the comment was made.

Mr Moyle noted the defendant had a six month suspended prison sentence imposed in Poland for violence and he asked Inspector Musson to see if the conviction had been declared on the work permit application.

He said he was not making an exclusion order at the moment.
