by isleofman.com 15th February 2008
A 24 year-old Douglas man is starting an eight year jail sentence after admitting drug charges.

John Kevin Golby, of Anagh Road pleaded guilty to possessing ecstasy and cannabis resin, and both he and 22 year-old Lee James Bellis, from Liverpool admitted involvement in drug trafficking.

The court was told police discovered a plastic bag containing over 3,000 ecstasy tablets, which belonged to Golby, in a lane between Quarterbridge and Tromode Road.

Officers replaced the bag with a dummy one and swooped on Golby when he came to pick it up a few days later.

Golby claimed he had been threatened over drug and gambling debts and was going to sell the tablets to friends.

They were worth ?18,000.

Police inquiries discovered over ?33,000 had been sent from the Isle of Man to Bellis' account in Liverpool since January last year.

Bellis said he had been threatened into withdrawing the cash and giving it to someone else, and hadn't made any money himself.
