Bat Box Day celebrated

by isleofman.com 18th February 2008
Enthusiasts will be going 'batty' at the Wildlife Park on Saturday, as they celebrate National Nest Box Week.

The Manx Bat Group will be marking the occasion with a Bat Box Day, from 10.30am.

According to the group's Recorder, Nick Pinder (pictured), more and more people are becoming aware that bats share their habitats with them, and are keen to help.

He says boxes can be provided for bats to shelter, and even breed, and they can easily be made, using a simple design favoured by the group.

National Nest Box Week is an initiative of the British Trust for Ornithology, but has been adopted by the United Kingdom Bat Conservation Trust as similar principles apply to boxes for birds and bats.

The Wildlife Park will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
