Awareness campaigns a waste - claim

Wasting public money on alcohol awareness campaigns is not the way to tackle our growing binge drinking problem.

That's the view of Professor Martin Plant (pictured) from the University of the West of England, who has been putting the Isle of Man into an international perspective at a seminar on 'Drinking and Alcohol Problems' at the Keyll Daree training centre.

He says there are effective ways to tackle the issues, including safer pubs and good community policing, but accepts the rise in teenage drinking has been alarming over the last few years:
