Man jailed for inflicting GBH

by isleofman.com 13th February 2008
A Douglas man with a previous conviction for violence has been jailed for nine months for attacking another man.

Twenty-one year-old Daniel McKay of Rosemount, Douglas, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on Daniel Billington.

McKay's co-defendant, 20 year-old Richard James Hunter of Widnes, Cheshire admitted actual bodily harm against Mr Billington.

He was given 180 hours community service.

The attack took place in Dalton Street, Douglas in June last year.

James Davis reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Witnesses saw McKay, who had already hit Mr Billington, kick him three times in the ribs as he lay injured on the ground.

Mr Billington sustained a cut lip, caused by his teeth going through it, which required seven stitches, as well as severe bruising and minor cuts.

Their advocate told the court both men were very remorseful for their actions, which he said had been caused by them drinking and being involved in an argument with Mr Billington earlier in the evening.

In passing sentence, Deemster Doyle said such behaviour on the streets of Douglas was totally and utterly unacceptable.
