Curraghs Red Panda escapes

by isleofman.com 14th February 2008
First it was wallabies, now a panda from the Curraghs Wildlife Park has escaped into the wild.

Pichu the red panda made her getaway from the Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park, near Kirkcudbright, along with her eight-month old cub, Isla.

She was on breeding loan to the Scottish conservation park but broke free when a tree toppled onto fences, bringing them down.

Several tunnel traps have been laid near the park, and experts say the couple may be able to survive on berries growing in the wild.
