Youths threatened with air rifle

by isleofman.com 12th February 2008
A 52 year old Douglas man who brandished a gun at youths, who he said were being a nuisance at his property, has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Trevor Duckworth of Derby Road admitted possession of a firearm with intent to commit a serious criminal offence, and affray.

At midnight, Mr Duckworth had asked youths to leave from outside his premises on Castle Mona Avenue. They refused and he returned with an air rifle. Police were called and found the air rifle and a pistol at his premises.

The action was described as spontaneous. He had not harmed anyone but merely intended to frighten them. His advocate said there had been a degree of provocation.

The gun was not fired.

Duckworth accepted he had lost his temper and was said he was apalled at his behaviour. He had written a letter of apology.
