Darwin Day celebrated

by isleofman.com 12th February 2008
Today is Darwin Day - an international celebration of science and humanity held on the birthday of Charles Darwin in 1809. Next year will be even more special, being the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Specifically, it celebrates the ideas, discoveries and life of the man (pictured) who first described biological evolution via natural selection, and with scientific rigour.

His 1859 book 'On the Origin of Species' caused a storm of controversy - which continues to this day with religious fundamentalists of almost every persuasion.
