Ideas for Douglas Prom

The conversion of one of the famous sunken gardens into a covered 'winter garden' is an idea being suggested by Douglas Corporation in association with a ?10 million reconstruction scheme for the roadway on the town's promenade.

The work is due to be carried out by the Department of Transport during the financial year 2009-2010, and Council Leader David Christian (pictured) sees it as a 'once in a lifetime opportunity' for the local authority to carry out its own improvements, at the same time.

The Council has appointed a three-member sub-committee to consider the possibilities and draw up plans:
