Island to give Sellafield joint-presentation

by isleofman.com 8th February 2008
Climate change and energy were at the top of the agenda at a recent meeting of the British Irish Council environment ministers.

Those present at the eighth gathering, held at Bangor in Northern Ireland, included the Isle of Man's Environment Minister John Shimmin, who gave a presentation about the new 'Fishing for Litter' initiative.

Irish sea fishermen are being asked to save litter from their nets and bring it ashore, rather than throw it back into the sea.

Mr Shimmin also announced that the Isle of Man and the Irish Republic would be presenting a joint paper on continuing concerns over Sellafield at the next such meeting.
