Police awards today

Some of the Island's most dedicated police officers will be saluted for their outstanding contribution to the Manx community today (Thursday).

Honours for long service, bravery and excellent service to the public will be presented at the Constabulary's annual awards ceremony this lunchtime.

And the awards will also recognise members of the public who've shown a commitment to their fellow citizens.

Marian Kenny looks ahead to the ceremony:

The awards go to at officers at every level in the force - from Special Constables to some of its most senior personnel.

Certificates of Merit and Commendation will be presented by the Chief Constable to officers and civilians for bravery, quick thinking and professionalism in a range of challenging situations.

among them - confronting dangerous offenders, rescuing people from drowing and preventing suicides.

there are also accolades for members of the Special onstabulary - from new recruits to old hands.

three officers and one member of the public will receive Royal Humane Society Awards for putting themselves in danger to save or attempt to save the life of another.

The ceremony takes place at the Sefton Hotel in Douglas this lunchtime - when the recipients names will be announced.
