Wheel 'insecure' jury told

by isleofman.com 6th February 2008
A wheel which came off a truck and struck a teenage cyclist was in an insecure condition, a jury has been told today.

13 year old James Berry was on a training ride in Greeba in December 2005 when he was hit by the wheel.

He died a day later in Noble's Hospital.

Vehicle examiner John Melvin checked the wagon at the accident scene and confirmed the wheel had been insecure, prior to it becoming detached.

47 year old Philip Firth of Laxey and David Jones of Ramsey - who carried out repairs to the vehicle shortly before the accident - each deny a charge of manslaughter
