Local authority reform raised on Agenda

The question of how to motivate Isle of Man residents to get involved in local politics is coming to the fore in the run-up to the all-Island local authority elections in April.

Local authority reform is on the political back-burner at present, with MHKs, councillors and ratepayers unable to agree on a better system.

Some suggest reducing the number of local authorities from 24 to five, to streamline a host of local services and ensure there are enough candidates to fill all the vacancies.
