Speed bumps here to stay

The Transport Minister says speed bumps on the Island are here to stay.

David Anderson was speaking after a recent article in the Times newspaper suggested that they may be doing more harm than good.

An AA study found that reducing speeds resulted in higher emissions from vehicles, and that the 30,000 'sleeping policemen' in London cause up to 500 deaths a year due to delays in ambulances reaching victims of heart attacks

However David Anderson (pictured) says restrictions have to be in place in order to ensure people drive at appropriate speeds in built up areas:
