Archallagan tip 'not necessary'

The chairman of ASAP, the group opposed to a landfill facility at Archallagan plantation, says she feels a recent inquiry into the issue was thorough and detailed.

Over the last five years ASAP has compiled three submissions setting out why the site - favoured by the Department of Local Government and the Environment - isn't suitable.

Jill Crossley (pictured) says a lot of information came out at the enquiry to support their own view, whereas the only consistent message being set out by DoLGE is that of a national need for the facility.

Ms Crossley says the Department hasn't taken into account changes to its own waste management strategies, which mean such a tip at Archallagan is no longer necessary:
