Jay Wood was the hero as Pulrose caused the shock of the day to send high-flying Old Boys out of the Cu-Plas FA Cup on Saturday.

Wood hit a hat-trick as the Division Two side sprung a major surprise at Groves Road.

Old Boys’ cause was severely damaged by the early dismissal of their goalkeeper for a professional foul.

And Pulrose took full advantage to earn a quarter-final tie with Division Two rivals Michael, who sealed their place with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Onchan.

The sides were level at 3-3 after 90 minutes and at 4-4 after extra-time before Michael took victory in the shoot-out, although it was hard not to feel sorry for Jamie Carr who struck a hat-trick for Onchan only to end up on the losing side.

Kieran Quinn (two), Paul Corlett and Jamie Mofatt were the Michael scorers.

There was no doubting the star at Colby where there was yet another hat-trick.

Frank Jones’ treble, including the extra-time winner, fired St Mary’s to a 4-3 win at CFS Division Two leaders Colby.

It was heartbreaking for the southerners who showed top-flight quality to lead 2-0 at half-time and force extra-time with goals from Steve Leece, Josh Kelly and Adam Thretwell.

But Jones was the hero with Martin Reilly grabbing the other Saints goal as their character and quality shone through.

In the day's other ties, Lee Cowley scored the fourth cup hat-trick of the day to fire Laxey to a 5-2 win at Union Mills.

Oliver Theobold and Gary Williams grabbed the others with Steve Halsall and Carl Dobbin netting for the Millers.

And goals from Colin Gilbert, Tony Boland and a Jeremy Lovett penalty fired Marown to a 3-1 at Ronaldsway, for whom Patrick Dempsey scored.
