Commonweath Youth Games launched

The seven sports for the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games were announced at today's official launch at the Villa Marina - Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rugby Sevens and Swimming.

It's expected one thousand competitors from seventy-one countries, plus officials and spectators, will visit the Isle of Man for the week long event.

The organisers have set a target of recruiting one thousand five hundred volunteers to assist with running the games.

Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Games Federation Michael Hooper is delighted the event is being hosted by one of the smaller member nations:-

Geoff Karran is the Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games.
