Expenses legitimate says Chief Minister

The Chief Minister has spoken up in defence of Tynwald members claiming expenses for things like petrol.

Tony Brown says it's a widespread and legitimate practice throughout most western democracies.

It's been revealed politicians claimed a total of ?25,000 in mileage allowances last year.

DTI Minister David Cretney has called for an end to it, saying Members' have far better salaries these days, while a Tynwald Committee has been charged with looking into the matter.
