Ramsey A claim champions' scalp

by isleofman.com 26th January 2008
Ramsey A caused the surprise of the day in Manx hockey on Saturday.

They defeated reigning champions Bacchas A 3-1 in women’s Division One to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

Laura Bellwood notched a double and Larrina Kovanda the other with Sharron Pope the Bacchas’ scorer.

It was also a good day for Vikings A as their fine start to the season continued.

They were 4-0 winners over Harlequins, led by a double from Kim Carney and goals from Dani Kelly and Jan Carney.

Kate Tinkler struck a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Kate Sutton as Castletown A defeated Valkyrs B 4-0, while Phoenix A edged out Valkyrs A.

The top two in men’s hockey won emphatically.

Champions Bacchas A surprisingly thrashed Ramsey A 6-0 - courtesy of goals from Gareth Craig (two), Richard Le Page (two) Andy Bridson and James Wright - while Valkyrs A went on a demolition of their own, winning 9-0 against Bacchas B, led by a Greg Miller hat-trick.

Elsewhere in men’s Division One, Vikings B and Castletown A shared the spoils, while Vikings A thrashed Saracens 8-0, thanks to a Paul Kelly treble, Conor Byrne double and goals from Simon Foster, David Millward and Andrew Harding.
